The Israeli Initiative - Comments

History is against you.

20/08/2008   Gary Timmons
I have been following events in the middle east since the '60s. Every step Israel has made to reconcile with the Arabs has led to more violeance and bloodshed. The simple fact is the Arab world will not accept Israel as a independent country has done everything possible to destroy it. I believe the only way that Israel will avoid conflict is to separate from the Arabs. To accomplish this I think Israel should do the following... 1) annex the west bank and gaza. 2) transfer the Arabs in gaza back to Egypt 3) transfer the Arabs in the west bank to Jordan 4) settle the land and make sure the world knows that Israeli land will never be negotiated away again. 5) revoke citizenship and depot ANY Israeli Arab and his/her entire family when that individual harms a jew. 6) execute without exception any individual involved in terrorist activities. 7) hunt down every known member of the PA, Hamas and all of the other terror origanizations that prey on Israel. Do this and at least the world will respect you and maybe your children can grow up in a better world.

Your plan needs to go one step further

03/07/2008   David Singer
Your revised plan needs to go just one step further. Sovereignty of Judea and Samaria needs to be divided between Jordan and Israel. You cannot realistically give the Arab residents Jordanian citizenship but demand they remain under Israeli sovereignty. Redrawing the boundary between Jordan and Israel is therefore the only solution that can possibly work. The international community needs to get behind Jordan to make this happen. Jordan cannot do this on its own. International efforts by the Quartet to create a new state between Jordan and Israel have failed abysmally. The Quartet now needs to show the courage to change course as you have done and focus on Jordan as the key to ending the conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbours. If it does peace can become a reality not an optical illusion. Even if Jordanian sovereignty in part of Judea and Samaria is presented as an option for the Arab residents and Jordan to choose rather than losing complete sovereignty.in Judea and Samaria, your plan will present a real challenge to the Quartet to pursue as its Road Map has gone nowhere in four years. The international community has always had to intervene to try and settle the conflict between Arabs and Jews. It will have to do so once again. Your plan - amended as I am suggesting - will offer the international community a road map with a definite ending and hope for Israelis to see light at the end of the tunnel. Dividing Judea and Samaria has almost been done already with the construction of the security barrier. In areas where there is an Arab population within the Jewish State they can be given the option of Israeli citizenship or move with proper compensation. A similar provision would apply for Jews left on the Jordanian side of the new border. You should have a creative map maker who can prepare a map showing how Judea and Samaria could be effectively divided between Israel and Jordan to achieve the most effective separation possible of Jews and Arabs so the least number of people possible would not have to make the decision to go or stay where they live right now. I urge you to make this critical change to what is a very well thought out plan

Dream world

03/07/2008   Michael Steiner
Dear, oh dear... All very nice sentiments; the only problem is that you're living in a dream world. The Palestinians have the inalienable right to self-determination. No amount of money will make them move from the territories (would YOU move to Russia if someone offered you a million dollars?) and if they stay, they have every right to their own state. Face the reality, 7evrei: we will have to give up the territories, sooner or later. We can do it now or we can do it later, but do it we must. The sooner we do it, the easier it will be. Great initiative

This is a great initiative. On Jerusalen Summit 2002-2003 several MK and right wing public figures had support it. Now Beni Alon is going alone?

No mention of Palestinians in UN Resolution 232

02/07/2008   Alex Rose
What you are proposing is precisely what had been specified in UN Resolution 232. IN THIS RESOLUTION THERE IS NO MENTION OF "PALESTINIANS - ONLY ARAB NEIGHBORING STATES. WITH ALL THE MONEY THAT IS BEING SPENT, IT SHOULD ALSO BE POSSIBLE TO EFFECT HUMANE TRANSFERS TO THE VARIOUS ARAB COUNTRIES
